The "Bean"

The day after Thanksgiving, we headed to Chicago in the afternoon for some city fun. Here's us at the "Bean" (thats what I call it - does it have a name??) We went to the tree lighting, drank hot chocolate, watched ice skaters, warmed up in Macy's and had a good time enjoying the holiday spirit. They set off fireworks that were very cool, but Warren was not in love with the loud bomb sounds that came along with them. Oh well, toughens him up, right?

analytics

Taylor found this cool thing with google and blogger. You can track all sorts of things about your blog by going to google.com/analytics.
It tells you how many people have visited your blog, where they are coming from - city and state, how "loyal" our fans are (how many times the same computer has looked at our blog), if they are coming from direct hits or from a search engine or which websites (or other blogs) they came from, etc. etc. It's SO COOL. And don't worry, it doesn't give us too many specifics, so you can stalk us all you want we won't know who you are. And it's free and we love it and we're a little obsessed at looking. Even though I haven't been very good at keeping this thing updated, now that I know I have people who care, maybe I'll be more diligent :)

Caucusing!

Do you know how to caucus? I didn't until just recently. I knew Iowa was a big deal to presidential candidates and that our caucus was important, but I didn't know how it actually works. So let me enlighten those who may not know. First, you must register as a democrat or republican to participate in their respective caucuses. In our little family, one of us has registered for each - give you one guess as to who's who. And you can't just go cast your vote for someone and leave...no no no. This is an event. It begins at 6:30 and usually lasts somewhere around 2 hours. So you sign in and (after a bunch of hoopla and instruction) basically go stand with the group of people who support the candidate you want. They assign you an area and you go huddle together (word on the street is that there is heckling involved to convert some last minute people to your candidate) where they count you. In the democratic caucus, a candidate has to get at least 15% of the vote to be viable. If they don't, then there's "realignment" where those people have to choose someone else to support (more heckling). And then they count you again. You get delegate votes based on how many are huddled in your corner. Crazy, huh???

I'm sure I didn't do a very good job explaining that, so here are some good, dumbed-down explanations I found online. One good one that describes the democrat caucus (there are stick people and graphics involved) is on the Obama website. Another one was at iowacaucus.org. And the Iowa Republican site had a good explanation, too. How fun to be living in Iowa!! If you live here and aren't going to participate in the caucus, then you are unAmerican and a dork. :) So let's caucus! January 3rd...be here or be square.

Work...bleh

You want to know what I don't understand? Mothers who WANT to work so badly they stick their kids in day care. You want to know what STEPHANIE wants...to quit my stinking job because every day I want to punch myself in the face. I'm only there twenty hours, so I'm not as cool as all the "full-time" people; I always feel out of the loop on what's going on. And I'm not even good at what I do - it's really technical and boring and I always make dumb little mistakes that make me feel like I should go back to 2nd grade. So why am I putting myself through this? I don't know - cause I'm an idiot. It used to be because we needed a paycheck. I suppose we could have taken out MORE loans to live off of, but that didn't make a whole lot of sense since Tay can stay home with Warren the Cowboy. So everything was fun and games until things changed and we don't NEED my paycheck anymore (which is seriously pathetic anyways - I should have gone to law school because my Sociology degree just isn't cutting it!). So I quit :) You can send congratulations cards and balloons, I'm ok with that.
I really love the people I work with. But it was getting ridiculous. And Taylor's schedule was going to further complicate things. And I'm the boss of me and can do whatever I want. I am a grown up. And although I feel kinda bad for leaving, I really really wanted to. So I am. February 1st is my last day...let the countdown begin.

Harness

W really enjoys running away from us and going into the parking lot or street. So I decided it was "very necessary"for him to wear a harness when we went to Galina, Illinois the other weekend. He's not very steady, and when he gets to the end of the monkey tail, he usually falls. So it probably won't be coming out again any time too soon. But I'm thinking another few months and we'll be using it all the time!

Sweet Freedom!!

This was the funnest store there. All old school toys and candies. Taylor had to be dragged out. But I guess after all the jewelry and quilt stores, he had reason to want to stay :)

What we did this week

Not a whole lot. But here are some funny pictures of our boy.

MOOSE HAT!

I like Mama's slimfast
I make messes in the pantry.
We babysat Baby Ben Street. Warren became a sudden mama's boy.

Dressed for Success!

W loves Elmo. Mom and Dad want to punch him.

Peekaboo under anything - tables, chairs - is apparently the funnest game ever invented.

Birthday Cake

We didn't want to make a mess at our wonderful hostess' house during Warren's Birthday party. So we have our own little moment at home later on that week.

Happy First Birthday, Warren!

Dear Mom,

Here are the pictures of Warren's little birthday party. (You can stop harassing me now) We had good food and a few little friends in their little costumes. A winning combination. My good buddy Julie was gracious enough to host all of us in her home, and we had a great time. Warren got a few nice gifts and we got to spend time with some of our favorite people. :)

Warren's girlfriend, Julia. She's two weeks younger and very good lookin!

If things with Julia don't work out, Warren's got his eye on Camden here.
