Warren and I took the train downtown yesterday to watch all the new attorneys in Colorado get sworn in to the Colorado Bar Association. We had to leave at 2:30, which meant no nap for little cowboy. That made things fun when in the acoustically beautiful and resonant concert hall he kept repeating "go home . . . go home" during one of the speeches.
It was a short event, thankfully, but I don't know if it was really necessary. I guess it's practical to have that many people take the oath at the same time, but the whole thing was just one big pat-on-the-back-make-you-feel-great-and-superior-for-passing-the-bar love fest. A lot of pomp without a lot of substance. At one point, Taylor leans over to me and quietly says: "Sometimes lawyers can be so insufferable to be around." Good thing he's an attorney and not one of those money-grubbing, ambulance-chasing lawyers.
Am I proud of Taylor for passing the bar? Sure I am! But did we need to take a whole afternoon to have that feeling reaffirmed? I'm sure we could have thrown a better party here at home. At least he got to take off of work early and ride the light rail home with us. And I got this cute picture of my boys:
