Another Gag Reflex Story??

So we all know that W has the gag reflexes of a tiny kitten. But he took it to a whole new level on Sunday. We had finished sacrament meeting and I was on my way to drop him off in the nursery before going to Sunday School. Somehow a hair of mine got on his tongue and he barfed a bit. I saw it coming and caught it in my hand. Now catching someone's puke in your hand is bad enough. But that little bit wasn't enough to get the hair out of his mouth, or maybe it just made his stomach woozy, because he then proceeds to barf ALL OVER (Seriously - A L L O V E R!) me in the foyer. I'm pretty sure I was screaming, and then I started to cry. I'm standing there completely helpless, we're both covered in barf, it's all over (ALL OVER!) the floor, Taylor's rushed over to help, everyone is staring at us...SO EMBARRASSING! I hand W to Taylor and I head to the bathroom to clean up and he heads to the men's room to deal with W. I'm trying to paper towel myself clean, and it's obviously not working. So I strip off my top and Kristi gives me her cardigan to wear, Melissa pulls a safety pin out of nowhere so I'm not showing tons of cleavage, Abby is rinsing my sweater in the sink, I'm cleaning the barf off my shoes, and someone gets me a garbage bag for our clothes. Meanwhile, Taylor and Ben are getting W cleaned up, and an impromptu cleaning crew have strapped on latex gloves and cleaning supplies and they're scrubbing the floor (in their Sunday Best).

Although this experience was humiliating to say the least (especially because cowboy isn't even sick!), I had some great friends provide some wonderful service for us. I'm so lucky to have such caring people looking after us. And I'm very glad for several things:
1. it wasn't the first week in our new ward where people would forever remember us as the family who barfed all over the church
2. that I was in church with friends and not at Target with strangers
3. that he waited to barf until after sacrament meeting
4. that W didn't eat pickles for breakfast
5. that I could run home really fast, shower, and come back in outfit #2 to catch Relief Society for one of the last times in Iowa.

Thanks everyone who helped and/or didn't laugh at us. Your sympathetic looks were appreciated. :)

I missed it. You are a trooper I am not so good with throw up so maybe it is a good thing I missed it.

I can sympathize with Warren and his gag reflex! Just thinking about a hair in my mouth makes me gag. I am glad you were surrounded by good friends who rushed to help you out!

Steph I have a 100% sympathy for you and about 90% jealousy. Isaac also has an amazing gag reflex and decided to show this on our 7 hour flight to Seattle. He threw up all over him and I and our seat and we still had 5 hours of flight left. This is the sympathy part, the jealous part is that you had wonderful friends and husband that stepped in to help you out. I had two strangers that got up and moved to different seats without any offer of help. At that moment I really wish I was at church and not on a plane.

Wish I could have seen that. I would have helped you out too! :) Maybe you should just buzz your hair so you don't have to worry about that happening again. :)

6. I did not live in Arizona where no one would have an extra piece of clothing to lend me in the month of June when it is 100 degrees outside.

I am sorry that happened to you, at least you were among friends. I have had Jonathan throw up all over me at a friends house and it got their couch, carpet and my shirt/pants. We were on vacation at the time too, so we were a good distance from the hotel.

I was so surprised to see you in RS all happy and clean, because I had caught a glimpse of you in the bathroom as you tried to clean up! Way to go supermom!

Oh, I was only looking happy and clean because I went home, showered, changed my clothes, and raced back! :) I wouldn't have wanted anyone to have to endure sitting next to me smelling of puke.

Oh come on Steph! You were in the University Ward...that kind of thing happens all the time right?

As awful as that probably was, you gotta admit it's pretty funny when you read about it:) You're right that you were lucky to have friends helping you!

That has to be one of the most tragic yet hilarious things I have heard in quite awhile. I am sad I wasn't there to help. I beamed with pride for the sisters in our ward as I pictured everyone rushing to your side without hesitation. Miss you!

Seriously, can't believe you came back to church. You are devoted. That is ... wow... awful! But I agree, if it had to happen somewhere, at least it was at church!

Stephanie I have to say that this story made me laugh. I can totally relate to you on the whole gag reflex thing. My oldest Noah has the worst gag reflex too. He gags over the silliest things. It drives me crazy. Luckily I have never had an experience like yours.
